Your phone goes everywhere you do. And while you regularly wash your hands and most touched surfaces, you may not regularly clean your phone case. Cases can carry thousands of germs on the surface, not to mention the dirt and dust that gets trapped in the nooks and crannies of the case.

Now more than ever, it's important to know how to clean your phone case. But what's the best was to clean your case? Here are our tips and tricks.

Use soapy water and a toothbrush.

When it comes to cleaning your phone case safely and effectively, a little warm water and dish soap go a long way. You'll first need to remove your phone from its case, then place the case in a bowl of warm, soapy water and allow it to soak for about 10 minutes. If your case floats, weight it down so it's fully submerged and can get a good soaking. Once the 10 minutes are up, use a toothbrush to clean the inner edges, cutouts, or anywhere else that grime has built up. Then, rinse the case in fresh water to remove any excess soap.

Dry with a microfiber towel.

When drying, it is best to use a microfiber towel. This is a soft towel perfect for absorbing moisture effectively without scratching the surface of the case.

Avoid anything abrasive.

Stay away from using anything abrasive when cleaning your phone case. This means no abrasive cleaners like bleach and no hard-bristled brushes. Harsh cleaning products can scratch or even deteriorate the surface of your case, which will weaken its overall protective nature. If you want to clean your phone case with something that packs a stronger punch than just soap and water, reach for a disinfectant wipe.

Never soak leather cases.

If your case is leather or has a leather accent, never, and we mean never, soak it in water. Soaking leather can harm or completely ruin the integrity of the material. To clean leather cases, you can use a slightly damp cloth to wipe down the case to get rid of dirt or grime on the surface. Preferably, you should use a leather cleaner to keep your case germ-free and looking like new.

What about cleaning my phone?

Don't forget to give some TLC to your phone as well as your phone case. Since soaking your phone in warm, soapy water isn't an option, we recommend you clean your phone with a disinfectant wipe. Be sure that it's not too wet and you don't get excess liquid near the speakers and ports. It's also a great idea to disinfect your phone case with a wipe in between those deep cleaning sessions.

Like the Microfiber Towel tip! I usually use a paper towel which could scratch. Will have to find a small towel to keep nearby and in the car.

I’ve never really thought about removing my case and soaking it in warm soapy water. I usually just use a disinfectant wipe and wipe it down. Sounds like a good idea, though and then also cleaning my phone. I’ve never really thought about that either, since it’s always in the case with a glass screen protector.
